The Range Rover Velar has been in the Mzansi market since late 2017. The car was launched as a stylish, mid-range alternative in the JLR stable. With only petrol and diesel engines available at the time – including a huffing 405kW V8 version – the Velar made a bit of splash in its target circles.

Now the Velar P400e has been announced and joins JLR’s latest plug-in Hybrid march. The numbers look good and range is quite promising. At a time when we are experiencing record high fuel prices, everyone is looking to save. The Velar P400e has the following powertrain details:
• 2.0-litre turbo petrol
• 297kW, 640Nm
• 8-speed auto
• AWD
• 19.2kWh battery
• 0-100km/h: 5.4s
• Electric range: 64km
• Price: from R2.2 million
