New spy pics of the upcoming Mercedes-AMG CLE 63 S Performance have surfaced. Replacing the C and E-Class Coupes, the CLE range will include smaller petrols, perhaps a Hybrid and then this huffing 63.

In terms of dimensions the car will be slightly bigger than the previous C-Class Coupe in order for E-Class Coupe customers to not feel short changed when buying it. The AMG model that is spied on these pages has been flexing muscle at the Nurburgring Nordschleife. Because it is more or less the same car as the sedan, we already know a few details. Like it carries a 2.0-litre turbocharged, 4-cylinder petrol engine hooked to an electric motor.

Together they make 500kW and just over 1 000Nm of torque, sent to all four wheels via the car’s 4Matic AWD system and 9-speed automatic transmission. While performance figures remain a mystery for now, we cannot discount a 0 – 100km/h time of around 3.5 seconds, thanks to all that power and traction.

From the pictures we can see the four exhaust tailpipes at the rear. But this is not a V8 anymore, so the sound will not be a V8 sound. To be fair, the 63 motor has been shrinking with the generations along with the exhaust sound. First it was a 6.2-litre, then became a 4.0-litre, and is now a 2.0-litre. In contrast, power goes up.
